I had an optimal router for two years before switching to a NetGear Nighthawk X4s wireless model. It functions well, but in my basement home theater with thick rock wool and volcanic rock insulation, the signal struggles to penetrate. I considered repurposing the old router as an access point, but when I connected it via the LAN port on the Optimum to the Ethernet switch and used another cable for my PC, I tried accessing it at 192.168.1.1 to change its IP address to a .2 format. It refused to allow configuration because it required a wired connection to a modem instead of being linked to my other router. I explored all options but couldn’t get the setup screen working.

Connect the device, launch Command Prompt (Windows only), and enter 'ipconfig'. Check for the gateway line, then input it into the browser.

I handled it myself. My computer's Ethernet port was linked to the best router, which in turn was connected via LAN to a Netgear router. The device insisted on using the modem and asked me to verify the coax cable. It wouldn't let me set it up unless it was the sole router.

It seems I located it. The Nighthawk LAN needs to connect to the Optimum WAN port (about 90% confident). This way, the Nighthawk functions like a switch and routes traffic through the internet. However, this will create a separate network on Optimum that isn’t tied to the Nighthawk Wi-Fi. Edited January 7, 2019 by Saksham

The device continues to display issues, showing images while attempting to reach 192.168.1.1. The computer is establishing a connection via Ethernet to the optimal router.

The optimal setup seems to restrict the router to direct connection with the modem, preventing it from functioning as an extender. There might be another detail I’m not catching.
