Back in September I spent five dollars on a red Vodafone Wi-Fi extender. At that time my internet speed was 100 Mbps down and 40 Mbps up. Connecting it to my PC via Ethernet gave solid performance, especially for bandwidth-heavy apps like Steam and Epic Games. Last month the provider upgraded us to free speeds of 300 Mbps down and 100 Mbps up. However, the Vodafone extender still caps at around 100 Mbps. I’m close enough to my router for decent Wi-Fi but not fast enough for a reliable Ethernet connection. I’m considering using an Asus AC1500 router as a potential alternative, but I’m worried about placement and interference from people walking through the house.
Check if your router model matches the manual on page 65. The AC1500 doesn’t support extender mode; it works best as an access point with an Ethernet uplink to the main router. Extenders use half-duplex, which reduces speed and adds latency. Is the performance you’re seeing typical for your setup? Try testing speeds near the wireless source. Are you using 2.4GHz or 5GHz?
