My friend handed me his old PC, but it only supports the MSI B150M BAZOOKA board and an Intel Core i3 6100 chip. This setup causes a significant performance limit. I’m looking to upgrade and need a better processor. Online advice suggests using 7th generation Intel chips with updated BIOS, but overclocking isn’t my goal—I just want confidence in the CPU choice. Right now, I’m unsure which CPU fits best with my system. I’m considering Intel Core i5-6600 or i7-7700. What’s the optimal CPU for these components? My setup includes: motherboard MSI B150M, CPU Intel Core i3 6100, graphics NVIDIA GeForce 1060, and 8GB DDR4 RAM.

For the 7th generation, updating the BIOS is recommended. There’s no significant difference between the 6th and 7th gen models, so the 6th gen i7s remain a solid option to consider.

Choose the i7-6700 or 7700 based on price. Skip any "engineering sample" CPUs found on eBay.
