Your IP address is given to you during setup. A restart of your modem can assign a new one.

When using DHCP, restarting the modem often resolves the issue. For static IP settings, simply update the configuration and save changes. On a PC, you can manually assign your own IP as long as it matches the network range provided by the gateway or router. I attempted that and it didn’t alter any of my IP addresses. When searching online, location sites display random characters instead of consistent numbers. Visiting a location page shows your actual IP, not a random string.

These random digits and characters are probably your IPv6 address. Many ISPs assign time limits of about 30 minutes. You can likely disable your modem for that duration to obtain a fresh one.

Your random numbers and letters represent your IPv6 address, while standard numbers are your IPv4 address. Many internet service providers offer both. The best approach is to check your lease duration for your IP and disconnect the modem before that expires. This increases the likelihood of getting a fresh IP. Also, if you have separate modems and routers, using the router’s MAC address cloning feature can help obtain a new IP, especially with providers like Comcast where changing the MAC address makes it appear as a new device.
