I need to switch from an Athlon A8 9600 to a Ryzen 3 4100 on this Asus PRIME A320M-K board. Should I update the BIOS first, since it might not work with the newer version? I’m new to BIOS updates and don’t want to damage the system.

It seems you need to flash the BIOS, but after updating it you can't boot. Update the BIOS again, restart the system, wait a while, then power off and replace the CPU.
