What exactly is wrong with his CPU for streaming? I would just try it. Your GPU is lacking for modern games at higher settings, so I would reccomend upgrading that soon. I am not sure what upgrading to a newer i5 will do. Like I said, give it a try as-is. If you are upgrading your CPU, you might as well get an i7. The performance difference between an overclocked 2500K and a newer i5 isn't much. So if you are dropping $$$, might as well get a decenty upgrade or wait for another generation of i5.
