Hey friends, I tried recording a video at startup of my latest Asus Maximus IV Extreme before the splash screen appeared. I’m not sure what it does, but I’m curious if there’s a way to safely turn it off without affecting normal Windows 10 boot. Since I’ve got an SSD connected via SATA port 6 and think a previous owner might have used HDD in AHCI mode, I was wondering if I can disable this setting in BIOS or just leave it as is. It usually adds a couple of seconds to the boot time.

It's searching for SATA devices on its bus. You need to turn off that controller. If it's a PCIe card, remove it. If it's built into the motherboard, adjust settings in the BIOS software. Because the boot screen says no drives found, your board likely has SATA ports connected to the chipset too. Switching off the whole system in AHCI mode may lead to problems. The next choices are Legacy BIOS and RAID mode—AHCI can't be simply disabled.

This will eliminate the 10 to 15 seconds delay each boot, but it will also disable the SATA ports linked to that controller. It's not a major issue if you need them, just re-enable the SATA controller if required.

I need to look up the manual to find out which controller manages my SSD port. Then I should disable the other one. AHCI isn’t clear to me—why would it say HDD isn’t detected on the Marvel controller? That means I can safely turn it off.

I'll attempt it shortly and let you know the outcome. I'll make sure to verify that the SSD isn't connected to the controller's SATA port.
