Click the desktop area. Move the pointer to View. From the options, choose auto align and confirm.

Then it moves all icons to the right side of each screen, which is exactly what I wanted for my icons to stay fixed.

I've been using this for a few years now... It's straightforward—just install it, then right-click the desktop and choose Save. If something goes wrong, right-click the desktop again and restore. It also works with multiple monitors, and you can save different profiles if necessary.
