your processor could quickly turn into a bottleneck with any substantial update. a 280x would be a good improvement, but your chip isn't very powerful at all. if you managed to combine a 280x with an fx6300 cpu, you'd have a decent setup for a while.

you can safely use anything up to a r9-280x (or wait to see what the 300 series brings). i tested an r9-290 on a cx500 and it was close. actually, it works fine.

he cpu has enough power for today’s games. modern titles run smoothly across multiple threads, while older ones don’t demand much processing strength. the top choice would be a g3258.
