So I upgraded to Win10 from via the free update last year and my Win10 license changed from OEM to being 'attached to my Microsoft account'. So here's my question: Am I able to install a new motherboard into my system without a fresh install of windows and a new license(Then just update drivers)? Or do I have to install a fresh copy and buy a new retail license from Microsoft. I am changing the motherboard since I am switching from a FM2 A10 6700 system to a Skylake i5 6500 system for better performance since Skylake CPUs have become a lot cheaper whilst still having solid performance in games and such. I hope you can give me some help on this if anyone has attempted this before. Thanks!
I’ve tried it, and it helped me. In the worst case, you can reach out to Microsoft and they’ll provide the key for you.
I've already covered the cost of the motherboard and placed an order for my CPU, which is a bit disappointing given the good deal on a used i5 6500. Since I'm based in the UK, the prices for Ryzen CPUs seem much lower compared to what Americans pay. While I see the potential in Ryzen, I prefer testing out older Intel chips because they still perform well for games and are more affordable locally.
Haha, someone mentioned Ryzen prices in the UK. I know the 1600 is about £25 less than the 7600K—seems fair. Also, the 6600K is often cheaper than the 1600 and 7600K when you look at the best deals on selling groups.
