A long time ago, I got a Windows PC from a school via a former contact. Now I have no connection with the IT department there. The machine came pre-installed with Windows 10, and I assumed it was a standalone license since I didn’t know anything else back then. Recently, I’ve been getting warnings at login about my Windows license nearing expiration. It still functions normally except for those alerts. After some research, it looks like the PC was activated through a Key Management Server tied to the school. Since it’s no longer on their network, the license will eventually stop working. To fix this, I think I need to buy a standalone Windows 10 Pro license and “swap” or add it to this machine. - I’d like to get a Windows 10 Pro license without reinstalling everything. My current setup is exactly what I want, and I’d rather avoid a full backup, reinstall, and reconfigure. I’m unsure if there’s a way to change versions in Windows this way—Education → Pro. This is confusing. Thanks in advance for your help. Best regards, -a- PS: I could also try installing an open-source OS like Ubuntu, but that’s not the focus here (though I might consider it later, maybe in a dual-boot setup).

You're able to set up any Windows 10 or 11 version. You can purchase a license from various sites that sell third-party keys, typically for around $10 to $15.
