Only restores the standard settings of the system. Taking the battery out also erases the date and time. They don’t handle a BIOS flash as you might imagine. It functions more like a recovery method for incorrect configurations. Getting a BIOS back on a motherboard is essentially the same as updating it. You create a reliable, tested BIOS, effectively reversing a faulty or corrupted one.

You can update the BIOS even if the one on the board is damaged by using a USB flash drive or a computer to install the latest firmware.
