I just faced a major issue with Discord falsely banning my alt and then blocking my IP. Since I have a Comcast Xfinity plan, I’m curious if there’s any way to modify my public static IP so I’m not banned anymore. Thanks for the update—I don’t want to edit my MAC address because of the router and modem setup.

It seems like a typo occurred on Discord. You might want to reach out to them to resolve the issue and get unbanned. Contacting your ISP could also help change your IP address; they may ask for details you can provide. If you prefer not to interact with your ISP, using a VPN is another viable alternative.

Checking Xfinity's specific features on Discord would require looking at their official announcements or support resources.

I have no personal experience asking Xfinity specifically to change an IP but as I had heard people succeed requesting new IP's from their ISP's for one reason or another it is my expectation that Xfinity would also oblige the request. If you can give them a good reason.

Cable ISPs typically don’t offer a simple method to alter your IP address, as their system automatically selects an IP from a continuously rotating pool. You might attempt bridging your modem and then linking your own router or device directly to it. This often results in a fresh IP assignment because the MAC address used for the request changes, allowing you to verify a different IP once you disconnect.

Initially they don’t provide a fixed IP unless you pay an extra fee, which is uncommon for most providers. IP addresses on their network are tied to MAC addresses. Still, with a standard cable modem and separate router, you can easily switch the IP. Simply use the Mac address clone option on your router to alter its MAC address, which will typically trigger a fresh IP assignment since the previous one would be linked to the old MAC. Most users, however, rely on Xfinity gateways. If that’s your setup, you’ll need to contact them and ask for help.

It seems they're trying to dismiss the idea, but you can often create a MAC clone on the WAN side of the router to get a separate DHCP lease.

I share the same ISP. If the person is using one of their gateways, it won't work. Since Comcast doesn't sell regular cable modems, we often purchase them ourselves.

Ah, indeed. I didn't even hook that POS up before giving them the MAC of my MB8600 out of the box
