I have an older PC I stored away after assembling a new one. After moving, I brought it back and considered using it as a compact HTPC in my bedroom. The SSD has failed, and there are damaged sectors on the drive containing my backup. I have another SSD ready, so I plan to install fresh Windows there. I’m curious if it’s possible to locate the OEM Windows key within the backup file (assuming it isn’t corrupted). I know it might be transferred automatically when signing in with my Microsoft account, but if that doesn’t work, I’d like to retrieve the key. (If feasible) I’ve already received a lot of support from this forum, especially regarding the PC I built, and I truly appreciate it. Thank you very much.

Choose the option that says you don’t have a product key when installing Windows 10 again. After that, once the update is online, it will register itself automatically with a digital license.

The OEM-key is built into the computer's BIOS if you received it with the PC. Otherwise, it exists in the Windows registry in a coded way if you purchased it from a seller.

It never requested a product key. It prompted me to log in to my MS account, which it did. Thanks everyone.
