Hi, I'm in a three-story home with the modem on the third floor. My router is connected there, but the WiFi doesn't reach the first floor. I'm planning to run a cable down to the lower level and connect another router there. However, the second router can't support gigabit Ethernet, and I only have a 500 Mbps line. I was thinking about setting up a switch between the second router and the computer so everything works smoothly. Does this arrangement sound good?

the second router must operate as an access point. budget models typically lack this feature. you might find a dedicated wireless access point for less than $80 from a trusted brand such as ubiquity, provided you don’t require AC connectivity. the connection to the computer should function properly as well.

Yes, an Asus RT-ac750 can work if it's compatible with your system and you provide the necessary drivers.

Yep, I'm doing a similar setup with another asus router. I've attached the instructions for setting it us in access point mode RT_AC750_Manual.pdf

The WAN port operates at 10/100 Mbps. Adding a switch won’t improve wireless speeds beyond that; it mainly offers gigabit Ethernet on the first floor.

It looks like a lot of work just to run a wireless AC router with only 10 or 100 ports. This setup doesn’t make sense. Discard it and invest in a solid access point with 1000 ports.
