I'm wondering if I could try installing Linux on one of the hard drives instead. Then I'd manually add Windows to the SSD, adjust the boot sequence, and wipe out the old drive. Just a quick thought—doesn't sound like a great idea.

In theory, you could create a virtual machine, route the HDD into it, and install Windows as usual. However, it's much more efficient to purchase a new flash drive instead.

Consider these options. When it mentions "partition your USB," think of "partition your other drive." https://linuxhint.com/create_windows_10_...usb_linux/ It's unclear if this will function, but swapping in an 8 GB stick should likely be affordable.
