From a legal standpoint, you must have an additional Mac OS X machine to complete the setup; I assumed you were referring to the new storage component.

I realized that after I gave my response. In fact, you can't legally build a hackintosh, since Mavericks is open-source—legal issues are usually the biggest worry.
