Thinking about why you're experiencing slow internet and no backup files at the moment. It sounds like you're in the final stretch of a project—just an update should finish without resetting your game.

It's a significant upgrade rather than just an update. The current version is Microsoft Windows running NT Version 10.0.10240, unlike previous NT versions used for Windows 7 through 8.1.

It seems the update won’t fully reinitialize the system. It could behave like Windows does during an OS upgrade by moving files to a dedicated old Windows folder.

I’ve got around 500GB of Steam games and other content, everything else is too large to store locally. Backing up my college work is fine, but my games and programs can’t fit on my device and would take a long time to download given the slow internet connection.

It feels like a better enhancement instead of just a simple update. Make sure to save all your information during the transition. If possible, back up your files first, and at minimum protect the essential data.
