There are numerous Ethernet cable options available. Cat8, 6, and 5 differ in performance. Which is ideal for streaming, gaming, and regular use?
Consider Cat5 as being limited to 100Mbps, while Cat5e supports gigabit speeds. The cost gap is minimal now, making it sensible to opt for Cat5e at least. Beyond that, it depends on whether you require 10Gbps over longer distances—Cat6 and Cat6a become relevant—but I think even 100Mbps is more than sufficient for gaming, as most online games operate between a few kbps to 1-2Mbps at best.
Choose the required length of Cat5e and call it a day. For runs over 100 meters, switch to Cat6. Anything beyond Cat6 offers no benefit for consumer devices.
Copper Ethernet is designed for 100 meters no matter the rating. Around that distance for any category, you'll need a switch or similar to extend the signal.
