I need to purchase a new 16GB DDR4 3000MHz stick quickly, but I couldn't locate two 8GB units. Now I'm encountering issues. I was wondering if pairing an 8GB stick with my 16GB one would be possible? Would it function together or operate in dual-channel mode, with both RAMs running separately? Please clarify so I can decide whether buying the 8GB stick with my 16GB model is the best option or if selling my 16GB stick and buying two 8GB sticks would be better.

The 16 gigs will operate in dual channel mode, whereas the 8 gigs will use single channel. This setup may result in a performance impact, unfortunately.

Consider purchasing two 8GB sticks or opt for one 8GB stick instead.

You can also use "Flex Mode" to utilize both the 8 gig stick and the 16 gig stick in dual channel, with the rest operating in single channel. Just confirm your motherboard can handle it.

the initial portion exceeding 8+8GB will likely use dual-channel, while the rest stays single-channel. The exact configuration depends on the system's decision, not just adding an 8GB stick would make a noticeable change unless you're optimizing for cost and total capacity.

It usually works better with a 2x8 setup. If you can afford it, it’s probably worth going for it.
