After more than a week of dealing with viruses and sluggish performance, I became really annoyed with Windows. The recent hack made me extremely frustrated, so I reset the system keeping all my files. In the process, I lost some important data and extensions plugin information—one tab saved link/tab manager was gone. My crypto wallet app also had a few items missing, probably around 40 boxes. Some other apps that weren’t found in the search bar before the reset are still missing. I used the restoration point, but it didn’t save anything. I’m not sure if it erased those points after the reset. Could you help? Also, is there any way to manually recover data from the folder named windows.old in my program? I attempted it but couldn’t find anything inside the plugin ID.

You can try to restore your data and apps after a Windows reset. Even if you didn’t delete anything, there are ways to recover what was lost.

How did you "reset" Win-OS? Did you do a fresh install? If so, not much chance of recovering anything I'm afraid.

I became really annoyed by the sluggish window performance and had been affected by a virus last week. It took time to fix, even before then. Frustrated with Windows, I reset through the settings app, but it didn’t save my data.

Choosing "keep personal files" preserves specific items under C:\Users\<username>, such as images and documents, but excludes applications and their configurations. Recovery chances are minimal because the reset likely erased existing data.

Thank you for letting me know, it sparks an idea to use Recuva. I'll give it a shot and hope it works.

Can you find a method to retrieve your digital assets? You mentioned having around 50 coins stored in a cold wallet from several years ago.

They're merely files, so if Recuva functions, you could potentially locate them. You should backup important files.

You're trying to recover as much data as you can right now. Some files are flagged red and may not be fully retrievable later. Organizing them will be challenging. Do you have any thoughts on handling this situation?

You haven’t used file recovery tools recently, so it’s unclear the ideal setup for recovered data. It’s wise to move everything to a dedicated storage device, as any further changes on the original drive risk losing recoverable files.
