They mentioned a new line installation would be needed for an upgrade, costing around five thousand dollars. I’m not familiar with Wi-Fi technology, so I’m unsure if there are other options to boost my speed or if I’m stuck.

You might consider Tesla's Starlink, but it would be expensive at over $100 a month. Check your connection speed when using the Ethernet cable provided. If your old wireless card is limiting performance, you may want to upgrade to a faster one.

According to Mariaushm, verify the connection speed by linking your PC (or any other PC) to your router using an Ethernet cable and performing a speed test. Recommended site: https://www.speedtest.net/. Compare your findings with the plan offered by your internet service provider. The numbers should align closely (within a few megabits) with what your provider advertises. This helps determine if the problem lies with your Wi-Fi setup or if there’s an issue with your internet connection itself, possibly requiring a new router.

I'm not sure about the exact details, but I can help clarify. Do you want to know how fast payments work or what connection speeds typical devices use?

Approximately two to three weeks prior, I tested the connection speed using an Ethernet cable rather than wireless. The results showed about 1 MB upload and 17 MB download from my router to the PC's Ethernet port.

Are there any other wired options nearby besides CenturyLink? Does T-Mobile offer a home 5G plan? (I haven’t used it before.) https://www.t-mobile.com/isp

I’ll follow up regarding the data rates, as my roommate arranged the setup. For wired connections, I receive roughly 1MB upload and 17MB download.

I think so because Xfinity and Media Com mentioned their services couldn't reach us, so we didn't try other providers. CenturyLink said they could get us internet, which is why we didn’t proceed further. We checked T-Mobile 5G as an alternative since we already use them as a mobile carrier, but they said it wasn't available in our area.

Ensure the Wi-Fi is disabled on the router and purchase a standalone access point.

If it meets your needs, you probably just require a more advanced router to achieve similar Wi-Fi performance. A solid router (plus optional access point) should deliver speeds comparable to wired connections. It may never be perfectly fast, but for slower internet, Wi-Fi is usually close enough.
