The goal is clear in the right circumstances. It seems I consistently land on suboptimal choices. A situation that usually fails is transferring files between drives on the NAS via the network. It makes sense as a less efficient method, yet it’s significantly slower than expected. This becomes especially problematic with many small files, sometimes taking 10 minutes for tasks that should take seconds when done locally.

Samba struggles with handling many files, which can cause issues. Large transfers tend to strain the system more.

Mostly it runs through NFS, though I’m not sure if there’s much in between them. I don’t really face any big issues getting files from the server—my memory gets a bit mixed up because Windows has had some odd network speed problems before. The problem seems to be that things look kind of wonky.
