Hi everyone, I have a friend who's setting up his PC and has these two components installed, but he's having trouble getting it to boot. He's checking the BIOS update but isn't seeing any results. Is this setup possible? Thanks ahead!

They are correct. More details indicate that if he uses an extremely outdated motherboard model, a BIOS upgrade is likely necessary. He should have at least version 7C91VA4. Updated on December 16, 2023 by Poinkachu

Running a 5000 series chip on a B450 board should be fine; it will likely work on a B550 as well. If the board uses an outdated BIOS, a compatible CPU might be necessary to update it. Following the MSI instructions is quite simple.

You don’t need to flash for high-end CPUs such as 5600X, 5800X, 5900X or 5950X. The B550 is designed for Zen 3. However, if you’re using a newer processor like 5600, 5700, 58X3D, etc., you might need to flash first.

If @freeagent is right about skipping the flash, there may be another problem. Checking the motherboard manual reveals it actually has LED diagnostic lights. It could be useful to pull out the manual and examine the LEDs for guidance.
