I recently bought a Dell G7 equipped with a GTX 1060 Max Q and an i7-8750H. While starting GTA V, I observed that increasing the GPU overclock caused thermal throttling on both the CPU and GPU. The CPU would slow down to around 3.6–3.8GHz, while the GPU would drop to about 1607Mhz. I recalled hearing about adjusting voltage settings and turbo boost parameters to improve performance on mobile CPUs. I had previously tried this on an i5-7200U but found it ineffective. Deciding to give it a try, I was initially let down by my 100mV under voltage setting since there were no noticeable temperature changes. However, the CPU maintained near 3.9GHz throughout. Noticing power throttling, I reduced the voltage by 150mV and kept the turbo boost at 75W and short boost at 80W. This time, temperatures remained normal, and sustained performance stayed around 3.9GHz. The most impressive result was a performance jump from 919kbps to 1205kbps solely through under-volting and fine-tuning the turbo limits. That’s a 31% boost for saving power. I’m planning to experiment further with voltage adjustments to push performance even lower. Update: at -175mW and 55W max turbo, I achieved stable performance with only a steady 3.914GHz and temperatures dropping to mid-to-low 70s–80s. The GPU now reaches up to 1776Mhz from its previous 1607Mhz, occasionally spiking to 1860Mhz. Just wanted to share these findings and hear if anyone else has experienced similar gains in raw speed or cooler operation. Also, I’m curious why the system still runs Windows 8—it seems to be a compatibility issue... Maybe a mod could target the CPU threads? I forgot to install it at first because I was a bit careless...

On the 2600k you're achieving impressive scores, though only a small margin in multi-threaded tasks. Your Dell G7 is still experiencing audio glitches—speaker crackling and popping—but now it's generating serious BSOD errors even after resetting it to factory settings. It seems like a reliable purchase might be the way forward.

It's quite surprising how lowering voltage can boost performance. This processor really shines for mobile tasks. That's impressive! I ended up needing at least the 1600 because my friend's FX4300 was slow and even after overclocking, it overheated. I managed to hit a 5.1Ghz record on UserBenchmark, though thermal throttling was definitely an issue.
