I purchased a new computer, sold the machine and retained the hard drive. When assembling my latest PC, I used the same drive and performed a fresh Windows installation. Then I noticed the product key was printed on the case. I decided to use the Microsoft Toolkit to bypass the activation prompt. I attempted to contact support, but they weren’t responding. Does the toolkit work?

Remember, the code you have for that device won’t apply to your latest setup.

The product key is linked to the device, not the storage drive. It's unclear exactly what you're aiming for or your specific scenario.

It functions on Windows 8.1, and upgrading to version 10 is free while keeping the activation active.

I verified it works with Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, regardless of how it was previously activated.
