Your current setup includes an i3 10100f and GTX 1650. You're considering the RX 6600 soon—check if your CPU matches its requirements. If not, upgrading to an i5 10400f might be a better choice.

This would definitely ensure the CPU never becomes a limitation.

I wouldn't suggest moving up to a 10400F, even if the i3 causes a 10% drop in performance or some game hiccups. The expense wouldn't justify it. It’s better to endure the short-term discomfort while saving for a better platform upgrade. Once you have that, you’ll benefit from the latest Intel or AMD chips and all their advantages. Plus, you’re also anxious before you even own the GPU—there’s no guarantee you won’t face any issues. Games generally handle the 4790k fine, which is what you’re dealing with now.

It could slow things down if I was u, but it would cost under $200 and offer noticeably stronger results as demonstrated here: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/In...4111vs4079. The gap is just about $20 for a 25% performance boost.

Also, when measured against a 10k and 14k, it's roughly 20 to 40 percent quicker.

I occasionally stream casually on Discord with lots of background content, but it slows down when I have 16GB RAM. I might need to upgrade my motherboard then.

Playing at 1440p will likely deliver a smooth experience. At 1080p the performance might be limited by your CPU, but it should still work well. You don’t have to upgrade to an i5 model. The price tag of around 300 includes the motherboard, so it’s not justified. Avoid using userbenchmark for hardware comparisons—it doesn’t give accurate results.

Use nvenc for streaming, which won’t heavily strain your CPU. The problem isn’t from this method—it’s likely due to keeping many tabs open. Avoid loading unnecessary content in memory. You can save all tabs and run two different browsers for monitoring and regular tasks. Close the browser with a billion tabs when playing games, as multitasking isn’t practical.

UserBenchmark provides misleading information and claims a 4 to 9% variation, despite stating a 25% gap. The reported differences between i3 and i5 are minimal at the single-digit level. Avoid relying on this site for advice.

You're welcome! I'll wait for the 12th generation processors to stabilize before upgrading.
