I checked the details about the Gigabyte GA-Z87-UD3H. It doesn’t support M.2 PCIe SSDs directly, even when using an adapter in 4x or 8x slots. Regarding non-boot storage, there’s no information indicating it can boot from NVMe drives.

This setup functions well without requiring a boot process. I've successfully employed NVMe SSDs as non-boot storage on older machines (Core 2 Duo and P4 models). Just ensure the system supports NVMe firmware.
