I previously enjoyed SA:MP around 2013, but after my GPU failed in 2013 I couldn't play it again. It's been nearly four years since my last session, and I'm curious—does it still be popular? Is it the same experience as back then? I plan to upgrade my PC soon and want to play RolePlay servers. Would you recommend a specific server? P.S.: I'm not sure if this should be in the right category, I'm new to the scene...

MTA doesn't have RolePlay servers, but every user must add certain mods. You're right about the mods being necessary for full functionality.

There are numerous RP servers available. The client must download scripts, maps, models, textures, and more, but this process is handled automatically.

I enjoyed playing SA:MP a while back. People still play it, though it hasn't reached the same popularity then. MTA is still maintained, but I haven't played it myself.

Yeah, it was a really good multiplayer... But it seems like it's still being good. There used to be 15-25.000 players online globally, now there are 40-60.000 players globally ( http://www.sa-mp.com/ ).

I looked at the site a short while back and saw 45,000 players online, now it's about 55,000. That’s nearly 10,000 more in just 10 minutes? What a surprise!
