I’m not completely sure if this was already occurring before I removed the windows.old folder (I only needed some extra space that was consuming storage after reinstalling the OS last year, which I hadn’t noticed). It seems to occur more often when running demanding games like Helldivers 2, but sometimes it happens even with lighter tasks. I previously had a 13900K and it would overheat and slow down despite having a negative voltage offset. I never really faced BSODs, crashes, or restarts. I sent the 13900K back to Intel because of the 13th/14th generation issues, but instead of accepting a replacement, they offered a refund. They gave me the full amount I paid—about $527—and then sent me a new 14900KF for around $400 during a Black Friday sale last November. The 14900KF came with the same mounting frame I used for my 13900K on an ASUS Z690 board with PTM7950. The BIOS was updated, but the chip still throttled during Cinebench tests. I haven’t seen any temperature spikes since, but recently I’ve been experiencing BSODs and crashes after just three months of using it. I’m not sure if the windows.old folder is related or if I’m just dealing with instability from those older generations, but my symptoms seem to be getting worse compared to my previous 13900K. I’ve attached my system details along with this post.

Removing Windows.old manually wouldn’t trigger this issue. Since the 14900KF is brand new, it seems unlikely to be affected too—though the undervolt might be the cause of instability. Regarding overheating, what cooling method should you use? You may need a more effective solution; the PTM7950 doesn’t seem to be helping much, and standard thermal paste tends to perform worse than expected.

Thanks for the update. It's reassuring to hear your setup is running smoothly. Your cooling system seems well-optimized, especially with the custom loop and the recent switch to PTM7950. The ambient temperature of 70°F and the absence of thermal paste should help maintain good performance. Keep up the good work!
