quicker than an old HDD? Absolutely. Even faster than a SATA 3 SSD? Not at all—significantly slower and with much higher latency.
Essentially pointless now. It worked fine with slow HDDs, but with SSDs USBs are much slower and Readyboost doesn't help.

Windows has certain requirements for use. It's probable you won't be able to activate it. If it identifies an SSD, it won't allow you to turn it on. The latest Windows 11 versions eliminate the tab when an SSD is detected. Using a flash drive would be slower than an SSD, making it unnecessary.
