I receive daily messages from random Steam users. They are usually beginners and their profiles remain private. This is becoming frustrating because I often log off only to find more notifications appear. Am I at fault for breaking my account? No one else I know on Steam has encountered this problem.

Absolutely, just avoid giving in. They’ll probably try to trick you into clicking a malicious link for trading, which is a common scam.

No, but if I did, I would disregard them even if they weren’t fake profiles. I believe it’s one individual attempting to gain access to your account, not several people. It seems you probably can’t do much beyond staying cautious and skipping friend requests. I’ve also heard about the PM virus spreading issue, which is affecting many users.

Sometimes I receive unexpected Skype invites, and they attempt to send me a link to view something inappropriate. I hope it’s just a joke.

They're just trying to trick people into downloading malware. I encounter them often too. The only solution is to block them.

I've noticed a rise recently, but as others advise, it's best to disregard them.

I usually get about 5 private unknown steam users each day. It's starting to become bothersome.

Typically it depends on the items you already own, like CS:GO knives or weapons. I usually grab a few each day and just ignore them. It's frustrating that Valve/Steam hasn't added a blocking system to prevent low-level accounts from creating large numbers of players.
