Yeah, I understand it's a simple question but I wanted to double-check. Do liquid coolers still need thermal paste? It's important for keeping the processor safe. Thanks in advance!

Because direct contact between liquids and the processor's cover is avoided, applying thermal paste enhances heat dissipation. Certain AIO models include paste ready to use, while others require you to apply a small drop before installing the heatsink.

there is still a need for a type of thermal compound between the cold plate and the cpus heat spreader.

Thermal paste helps move heat from the CPU IHS to the cooler. Regardless of whether it's air cooling or liquid cooling, the head must still be moved.
