I recently purchased one of these laptops (Apex 15 with a 3950X) and while adjusting settings, noticed that single-core tasks struggle with thermal limits (at moderate fan speeds). When using PBO at 71W (Ryzen Master doesn’t let me lower it), the CPU seems to tolerate boosting to around 4.7 GHz without overheating much. With a manual profile, I could reduce the frequency but multi-core operations still push it to higher speeds like 3.8 GHz per core. I’d love a feature similar to PBO but capped at a lower frequency—would that be achievable? Am I missing something? Could a tool like ryzenadj help if it weren’t currently available? If not, I might explore other options...
Can I modify the PPT file? I'm not sure if it'll help with single-core boost, but it might be worth checking. Also, TDC should be set to lower the thermal threshold, so I'd consider adjusting that as well.
