Hi everyone. I'm trying to figure out if Trident Z RGB CL18 and Z Neo CL18 are compatible for the same CL18-22-22-42 slot. I currently have a G.SKILL Trident Z RGB 16GB kit and want to upgrade to a similar model, so I’m considering the Trident Z Neo 16GB kit as well. Can both work together? If yes, what about adding a 32GB unit? That would give me 48GB total, but it feels a bit excessive. I really prefer staying with G.SKILL and don’t want to spend more for two separate kits. I haven’t found any info online confirming mixing these two models with the same CL18-22-22-42. I’m not sure if that’s possible, but I’m hoping it might be okay. I plan to buy soon in May 2021. Thanks!

Try it and find out! I am running a mixed set of Royal and Black and White 3200C14 and it works fine.. I lose a little on my overclock but its not the end of the world. For me I was planning a second build for my boys, so if I had a conflict the second set would have gone to them.. now I have to buy yet another set because I don't want to give these ones up lol..

It seems the issue might be related to RAM allocation or component placement. For your setup, does the 3200C14 model prevent XMP support? Or will you need to handle it manually? My Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition is already occupying a significant portion of my first RAM slot, and I’m trying to figure out how to resolve this later. In the meantime, I’m adding components gradually—like M.2 drives, RGB fans, and a PWM/ARGB hub. Once everything stabilizes, I expect the price and availability to return to normal, so I’ll build it myself. Thanks for your response. I hope they maintain similar latency if it works.

Some people might advise against it because they don’t want you to lose money if it doesn’t work. Just make sure everything matches in specs. I can turn on XMP with all four sticks without any issues. Consider getting a cooler with an offset design—it’ll help your CPU and RAM perform better. Don’t forget to reset the CMOS. All secondary settings shift when you upgrade from 2 to 4 units.

I reached out to Tech Support G.Skill regarding their products, Trident Z RGB and Trident Z Neo. Their response fell short of expectations. In the worst scenario, I’d have to buy another Neo kit from the same store and give up my Z RGB. This is my only remaining choice. Concerned about clear CMOS, I plan to research it thoroughly since this is my first attempt. I messaged Tech Support G.Skill (attachment 1, Gmail) and they replied with FAQ details that I’d already seen elsewhere. I also asked a seller who had the G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 16GB (2x8GB), F4-3600C18D-16GTZN (CL18-22-22-42), confirming compatibility.

G.Skill seems to be handling their performance well. Whether it works perfectly depends on various factors. Clearing the CMOS is straightforward—just disconnect the battery or short the jumper, or do both if needed. Expect the worst but hope for the best.

During the pandemic, many shops didn't allow in-store purchases. From the seller's product details, they mentioned Tested Speed: 3600MHz, Latency: 18-22-22-42, Voltage: 1.35V. Your current RAM appears to match these specifications (CAS, speed, and voltage).
