For a $250 laptop, you’d likely find something basic—like a Celeron processor, an emmc, and a small 11-inch display that barely functions. On the other hand, a $250 budget lets you assemble a more capable desktop with an i5, SSD, and maybe a refurbished graphics card, though GPU availability is still limited.

A solid laptop can really last a long time. My Lenovo IdeaPad feels and looks brand new after about three years. Mostly because it’s built with aluminum and has a great screen. Unfortunately, the specs weren’t great and it’s pretty outdated now—just 2-core/4-thread i5 + MX940. After installing Windows 10 updates, it slowed down a lot, but switching to Windows 11 made it fast again for everyday tasks.

Sure, a laptop can feel like a premium purchase, similar to high-end brands. Spending around 2-3k will give you great performance, but it's important to consider more than just the price and specs—quality and durability matter too.
