It doesn't work that way. The 8700K handles gaming well, and the cost isn't worth it for a chip on a dead platform, honestly. Edited July 21, 2020 by TofuHaroto

It's a matter of opinion, but an 8700k is close to a 9900k in gaming speed, particularly with overclocking. I'd put the savings toward a larger upgrade soon—something like a new 3000-series GPU.
