I checked a mobo+ram+cpu bundle on aliexpress. The Xeon would likely outperform your overclocked 3770k allcore at 3.4GHz, especially for gaming and multitasking tasks.

The E5-2678 v3 offers significantly higher performance compared to the 3770K, but its effectiveness depends on your needs. Xeons are built for heavy server workloads rather than everyday computing, making them ideal for development and multitasking. They may struggle with gaming. You could pair it with a budget LGA1155 board and a second 3770K for gaming purposes. Alternatively, consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 or an older Ryzen 7 with a B450/B550 motherboard—prices are likely similar.

For gaming it's significantly worse. Standard development and multitasking with an Xeon isn't superior to an i7. These Xeons are typically designed for handling numerous virtual machines or complex multithreaded long tasks. I believe your scenario doesn't align with either, making it a downgrade.

The model referenced is the 12nm variant, comparable to the 2600X. Given his budget, he can upgrade to a 5600X later, offering a solid improvement over the 3770K while staying within reasonable limits.

Oh ok tha 1600af so a ryzen 2600. Fair enough that is the better upgrade here for similar money I do highly disagree on the board chosen because it's just crap but I get why since limited budget. Also single channel ram is a BIG NO for ryzen at least go 2x8gb sticks at 3000mhz. But op has to answer first with a budget. Either way the xeon will be a waste as it offers basically no benefit for op.
