Hello! Considering an upgrade from i7-8700k, I believe the R5 3600XT might help smooth things out. Since my setup has an RTX 3090 and I’m running demanding tasks, I’m wondering if a 6-core CPU is sufficient or if going for an 8-core model would be better. My workload includes gaming at high resolutions, hosting servers, light programming, and video editing. How many cores are typically used by modern games today?

The 10700k is the lowest threshold to avoid slowing down a 3090 with six cores. Having it adds comfort without being necessary, just helping to prevent bottlenecks and boost overall speed.

Have you checked your CPU and GPU usage during games to identify any bottlenecks? A 3600 XT handles many threads compared to an 8700k, but its benefits won’t outweigh a RX 580 versus a 3090. Still, the 3090 offers more potential than it can handle with an 8700k. What budget are you planning for this upgrade?

6 core works just fine; if it didn’t then why does the 13600k slow down a 3090? Eco-rates don’t really matter for gaming anyway. What are your full specs? Probably you only need a new board and CPU swap, assuming you have a decent cooler and not something too basic.

You're confident your 8700k can handle the 3090 at 1400p. Running a 9900k gives you flexibility to stick with 1080p, but it doesn’t justify upgrading beyond that for this card. It makes sense to grab any of the last three i5 models based on their frame compatibility.

It really depends on the game you're playing. Six cores are considered basic for top-tier gaming right now, though they won't provide much extra benefit beyond that. It should run, but the experience might not be optimal.
