I have a Windows XP machine from ten years ago. Can Windows 10 be installed on it? If not, what upgrades should I consider besides the CPU?

You might not need to bother at all—just launch Linux right away and move forward.

One core handles everything. At least 2GB of RAM is necessary. ^this

It should function. You'll only find out for sure when you attempt it. Still, it might be a good idea to consider an upgrade...

Consider upgrading the existing PC instead. Running Linux or creating a fresh system would be more cost-effective than an upgrade.

Unlikely. His 10-year-old setup with a P4 630 processor wouldn't support it.

Linux might function, possibly including Ubuntu, though Windows 10 could present challenges. For these options, a 32-bit version is likely required.

Already own a premium RIG; curious about feasibility. The PC functions as a garage PC, but the mainboard doesn’t accept bootable USB drives. Installing Windows 8 via DVD causes “drivers not found” errors.

Give it a shot and see what happens. Probably no one has done it before, but I’m pretty sure someone mentioned the 478 socket isn’t compatible. Still, give it a try—it’s not much better than Windows 7.
