I enjoy open world games most when the terrain is stunning or when physics and mods are intentionally broken, like in ARMA 3. DayZ Standalone, Assassins Creed, ARMA 3, Middle-Earth: Shadows of Mordor, Burnout Paradise, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted all offered great maps. DayZ Standalone seems to be the most impressive map I've encountered so far.

They're interesting yet excessive, I enjoyed what I've experienced from 7 days 2 die on playthroughs, but it's quite costly for early access. Talking about it, I came across a survival game on Steam that doesn<|pad|> to be more like this one called Savage Lands: http://store.steampowered.com/app/307880
