DDR5 supports dual-channel configurations, so a single stick can run in dual-channel mode. This means using one stick should provide performance close to two sticks in dual-channel operation. However, the actual difference may vary based on factors like memory timings and system configuration. Many users benchmark to confirm the impact, but generally, a single stick offers similar performance to two sticks in dual-channel mode.

The two dual channel options differ: one comes from DDR5 design, the other from the CPU's memory controller that manages two separate memory sets. Using one stick still provides only half the theoretical memory bandwidth compared to someone with two sticks.

The combined dual channel setup doesn't contribute to the advantages of adding multiple RAM sticks in dual channel mode. Each DDR5 integrated channel contains half the data lines compared to a single DDR4 channel. Therefore, they provide identical bandwidth at the same frequency when conditions remain constant, yet DDR5 can be more efficient by operating with just one channel during low data transfers.

Thank you for the responses! I wasn't aware of the half bandwidth.

Instead of swapping the Water Cooler for a regular HSF, you’d fully enjoy the advantages of Dual Channel DDR5. In reality, few people notice any improvement from using an AIO cooler.
