You're using a larger cooler than expected for your 4790k, which is fine. Since you see LGA115x support plates available, buying one and installing it under the Noctua cooler would be a good idea.

No, I'm functioning properly and there are no temperature issues.

The Noctua backplate offers sufficient stability for LGA 115X. Inserting another plate nearby would likely cause more damage than help.

I haven’t begun adjusting speeds yet. At default levels it runs very cool. Playing casually at 1440p shows only low 50s performance. I plan to start overclocking soon and gradually increase the limits. But on this old board the VRM heatsinks have fallen out, so I’ll need to take the cooler off before I can proceed, and I’m thinking about what parts I might salvage while everything is accessible.

For reference, if others encounter this, the 6th generation support brackets were developed because the PCB on those CPUs was roughly a third the thickness of the previous generation’s board. This thinness made the boards prone to warping in new ways. In short, one bracket likely fits 4th generation LGA115x chips, but it isn’t useful for 6th gen due to its design or required power levels for later generations.
