Hello everyone, just wanted to include this note about the X570 and fan stop. This comes from my experience testing various boards along with following discussions on forums and similar resources since the X570 launched last year.

1. Most boards tend to have fan stop enabled, though early reviews showed some didn’t. Many manufacturers, including Gigabyte and ASUS, adopted this practice from the start through BIOS updates.

2. The X570 chipset doesn’t reduce speed like a CPU does; it still generates significant heat even without connected PCIe devices or if the NVMe slots aren’t filled. Idle temperatures can stay around 50-55°C, which is close to 60°C on some systems.

3. Fan stop usually operates at or below 60°C, meaning it should be off most of the time. However, many X570 boards have the fan positioned very close to the first PCIe slot, risking contact with the GPU heatsink if the GPU is long. This can lead to fan cycling or continuous operation due to heat from the GPU.

4. When ambient temperatures exceed 25°C, it can push the temperature above 60°C even without air conditioning, especially during summer months.

5. On some MSI models like the Tomahawk Mag, the fan is set to the lowest position, but the maximum width of the GPU cooler is only 2.5 slots. Beyond that, it will overlap with the fan opening—my 2.5 slot aligns perfectly without any space.

Below 25°C room temperature, the chip fan is usually off, even with GPU fan stop enabled. But during intense tasks like gaming or video encoding, the chipset fan activates at moderate speeds, though quietly.

In reality, there’s definitely fan stop in action, but its behavior varies depending on your environment, case airflow, GPU size and placement, and how the fans are positioned. This should help explain why some users say it never turns on, others report constant operation, and a middle ground is possible.
