Hey everyone. Just shared a quick incident. My wife slipped on a USB cord I was using between the printer and my PC, which broke one of the back USB ports. I didn’t notice until I tried reinserting it and accidentally shorted the system. It went off and then back on, mostly. After a hard reboot it worked for a few days. Later I noticed a strange odor and saw black soot around the VRM/mosfet heatsink. I’m wondering if that short could have caused it or if there’s another issue. Luckily the PC is still running, as long as I don’t put it under stress. Right now it’s off, but a new motherboard is coming soon. Just wanted to check if this could trigger another problem.

Here’s my setup:
- MSI Bazooka B350M motherboard
- Ryzen 7 2700X with stock cooler
- 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR4 @ 3200 MHz
- PowerColor Red Dragon 5700 XT
- Thermaltake SMARTPower 500W RGB PSU
- 500GB T-Force RGB SSD
- 640GB Samsung 5200RPM HDD
