Hello. I hope everyone is having a nice day. I own an XPG Lancer 6400 MT/s DDR5 RAM from seven months ago. It wasn’t a pre-assembled kit; I got them separately. Model: AX5U6400C3216G-CLARBK. My issue is this: whether I enable EXPO or overclock manually, my system becomes extremely unstable. Booting takes ages, BSOD appears frequently, games and applications crash, Prime95 reports errors during large FFT tests, etc. On base clock it runs smoothly at 4800 MT/s. Three months after resetting everything to defaults, I haven’t experienced any problems. I tested them individually, booting one at a time, but didn’t run them for days yet—they seemed normal. Clearly, RAMs from different manufacturers aren’t compatible just because they share the same serial number and look alike. Even though their product numbers match, compatibility isn’t guaranteed. My motherboard doesn’t list any issues with this RAM on its site. Could this be due to that? Is there official support for this combination in the future? If I swap them with a kit RAM, will this problem recur? Apparently, instability like this is quite common with DDR5. Should I invest more for 6400 MT/s performance, or should I wait for UEFI updates and stick with the default settings? Also, has someone heard that a power supply unit could cause these issues with overclocked RAM? That sounds plausible. I currently have an OEM Gigabyte PSU because my system is upgraded, and I didn’t want to revert it just in case. Thank you ahead of time.
It seems your RAM might be fine, but your CPU isn't utilizing it efficiently. Until AMD released an updated BIOS allowing RAM speeds beyond 1:1 95% of their AM5 builds, most kits capped at 6000, though some 6200-6400 models work in certain situations. The latest 9000 series includes newer EXPO versions that can reach up to 6400, but most remain near 6000.
This test runs smoothly in certain situations. However, it might fail later due to instability. The system seems configured for a single DIMM at 6400, which could lead to issues when paired with another module.
I followed your instructions exactly. I ran EXPO II and manually configured 6000 MT/s. It started up smoothly without any issues during POST. I won’t run synthetic tests right now; I’ll check stability during regular use. I’m scheduling a big FFT test for the weekend.
Also verify the BIOS updates. I recently assembled a mini-ITX setup for a friend with a Ryzen 8600G processor. The motherboard included its own BIOS from early 2024. When I turned on EXPO, the system kept restarting into Windows, crashing, and rebooting repeatedly until it finally reached Windows 11’s BSOD. After updating the BIOS, everything seems to function properly with DDR5-6000 CL30.
