XmpGames stops working after encountering XMP errors.
Your games stopped crashing once you changed the XMP settings to 3200 MHz. The issue likely stemmed from enabling XMP with a higher frequency like 3600 MHz. To fix this, you can manually set XMP to 3200 MHz again. Your system specs look solid—good hardware should handle that.
This comes from a tough, frustrating journey. RAM QVL status or absence is likely. BIOS is another concern. DOCP/XMP settings don’t always work perfectly. My setup didn’t match the recommended QVL specs for that board—16-18-18-36 at 1.35V—while the same board’s DOCP kept changing to 20-20-20-43 at the same voltage. The earlier RAM I used also caused problems, showing QVL really does matter. Now the machine runs smoothly and feels snappier. Updated September 6, 2022 by An0maly_76 Added more info
I understand this situation. The setup worked well for a while with XMP active and no extra voltage applied. Later, I changed the BIOS settings.
I didn't wait for a BIOS update. I started using my 5900X right away. After just two weeks, it crashed during a gaming session. I already suspected it wouldn't wake from sleep, but after the failure, it wouldn't even POST with video or a debug light every few starts. I changed the RAM and GPU from another machine, but the problem persisted. The board was sent for RMA, and an interim test unit had issues with those DIMMs, failing to start. One worked temporarily after installing RAM QVL'd for that specific board. The Asus B550-PLUS for my 5900X still showed the issue two weeks later. I moved parts to a different case with QVL'd RAM, and the problems disappeared. QVL really makes a difference in several cases. It's surprising how many people dismiss what I can demonstrate. Absolutely, ensuring everything runs smoothly without unexpected problems is important. QVL RAM might assist, though some users face issues even after changes. Switching from four to two sticks could also make a difference. I considered picking two QVL sticks instead of getting new ones, but I prefer the look with four.
