Hey everyone, welcome! I know this message might look a bit messy because I'm new here. In short, my Ryzen 3900X has been working well for more than two years. Recently, after installing and trying the Battlefield 2042 demo, my RAM started behaving strangely. When I try to enable the XMP profile, I get stuck in an endless loop that won’t stop. My motherboard is an MSI x570 MEG ACE and it’s been reliable since I set it up. I use Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB (32GB, 4x8GB) RAM, which was tough to get stable with at first but now seems to be failing. I’m wondering if I’ve made a mistake or if something is wrong. I’m considering getting some Samsung B-Die modules and adjusting them, but if it saves money that would be great. Thanks for any advice you can offer!

My prediction would be that the CPU's memory controller is beginning to lose performance, not the actual memory. The memory was built to operate at those specific speeds, delays, and power levels—so it was optimized before being shipped. How intense of a memory condition are we discussing? Zen 2 usually couldn't exceed around 3800.

At 3600MHz it seems uncertain. Zen 2 typically handled those frequencies well, suggesting the RAM might have struggled from the start—perhaps due to incorrect binning—and the issue could be related to aging components. Could you try achieving 3600MHz with more relaxed timing settings?
The issue is that 3600MHz RAM isn't performing well. A better option might be to purchase a 4000MHz CL19 model and adjust the clock speed and clock frequency accordingly, such as with the Patriot Viper. As @YoungBlade mentioned, this could be misclassified, so it's worth double-checking your RAM specifications. You might try increasing the supply voltage to 1.1V and test; if that doesn't work, consider setting a higher voltage of 1.4V. Lowering the clock speed to 3200MHz could indicate the RAM isn't properly categorized—possibly a refund opportunity. If it still doesn't run smoothly at 3200MHz, your memory controller might be faulty or damaged. For example, I had a system with 4200MHz RAM and 2100mHz IF clock running at CL17, using G.Skill Trident Z Royal Silver 4400MHz CL17. I could have gotten a 3600MHz CL16 even if it was pricier, or switched to a 4000MHz CL19 set to 3600MHz, leaving the stock CL and adjusting further by tweaking clock or speed, but not both simultaneously.
