Hello everyone. Thank you for your advice in addressing my RAM issues. Initially, I purchased two DIMMs of the GSkill FlareX model F4-3200C14D-16GFX with a 2020 label. In the past few weeks, I bought identical RAM sticks—four in total, each providing 32GB—but they all have a 2021 label. When using only two DIMMs, the XMP profile functioned properly. However, with four DIMMs, XMP doesn’t work. I’ve only overclocked RAM on an older Z97 Intel chipset and manually set memory speeds, leaving Auto Timings enabled, which performed well. Now, with this setup, I can only let the system reset itself after inactivity (1866 CL13). Any changes I make result in three beeps, cycling through three times before a default BIOS reset occurs. Additionally, Task Manager displays 32GB total, but only 15.9GB is usable and 16.1GB is reserved by hardware. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m a bit puzzled—could it be a faulty memory controller, motherboard constraints, or are the DIMMs from different manufacturing years incompatible? Also, are the AMD Ryzen 2700X stock settings affecting this? Asrock B450m Pro 4 Seasonic 650W Gold and AMD RX 580.**

I’m not sure about your problem, but a couple ideas come to mind. If you receive a RAM kit with two sticks and another with two sticks, there’s no certainty they’ll function together in any XMP profile, though they should work in the JEDEC default 2133 setting. That makes 1866 a bit confusing. It suggests one of the kits might have an issue. Would each kit run smoothly on its own?

Thanks for your response. I haven’t used the new kit by itself. I also haven’t examined each memory channel. I didn’t have time to thoroughly evaluate the issue beforehand. The 1866 model feels unusual to me too. Also, if I change anything about memory speed or timing and it fails, that could be a problem.

I expanded the testing and here are the findings... The DIMM slots A2 and B2 work well with the XMP profile 3200mhz @CL14-14-14-34, supporting both the 2020 and 2021 modules. In contrast, A1 and B1 aren’t stable when XMP is enabled—they only show one available profile and trigger three beeps during attempts to post. This issue appeared consistently across both sets tested. According to ASrock’s info, three beeps indicate a memory read/write error, causing the system to pause and then post once. CPUZ reports the memory at 2400mhz in dual channel CL16, matching JEDEC standards for those modules. The behavior remained the same regardless of module combinations or mixed setups, suggesting a problem with channels A1 and B1. Memtest86 also showed no errors after an hour of testing in various configurations. It seems the memory slots themselves are faulty. Would updating the BIOS help? Or should I consider replacing the modules instead of the board? Appreciate your guidance.

You have fewer choices because you need to maintain the board. A BIOS update for the board would be a good first step if possible. Next, check the four sticks. If no update exists or it fails, consider selling your RAM and purchasing a two-stick kit that matches your needs.

Adjusted DOCP to 3200 for JEDC timings and voltage. Configured VDDG CDD and VDDG IOD voltage controls. It helps stabilize the infinity fabric, which might be the problem. My threadripper wouldn't boot DOCP until both were set to 1.0.
