XMP at 3000MHz and 3200MHz RAM configuration
Hey there, new poster! Just started sharing updates and had a mix-up with my RAM setup. I used two 8GB Corsair LPX Vengeance 3000MHz sticks, then switched to two 16GB units at 3200MHz. Everything worked fine until I turned on XMP. Now CPU-Z says all four sticks are running at 3200MHz. I thought XMP would match the slowest stick, which was 3000MHz. My motherboard is MSI Z370 Gaming Plus, and I followed the installation steps exactly. The RAMs were installed correctly. Is this normal?
You may have set the RAM to 3200mhz with XMP enabled, which is acceptable if it runs stably on memtest86. Ensure each compatible stick is spaced one slot apart.
They sit just one slot apart, following the sequence DIMM A1 - 8gb 3000MHz, then DIMM A2 - 16gb 3200MHz, next DIMM B1 - 8gb 3000MHz, followed by DIMM B2 - 16gb 3200MHz. In my BIOS I couldn't select other profiles, only the 3200MHz option was available.
You may have multiple XMP profiles and have enabled the higher one of the two. My 2400MHz Corsair RAM also came with a 2666MHz XMP profile. If it's stable I wouldn't worry at all.
